KPN

Product Design
Project Description
KPN, a leading Dutch telecommunications company, evolved from a government-run postal, telegraph, and telephone service and is headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Tasked with enhancing its mobile TV and entertainment experience, KPN engaged Fjord (Accenture Interactive) to design and develop a user-friendly OTT (Over-The-Top) Player application. This application aims to bring seamless mobile TV services and engaging entertainment content directly to KPN’s users.

Outcomes
Project Overview
We designed a digital product for three platforms, starting with a strong visual concept that aligned with the client’s brand values.

Team Collaboration
The project team consisted of 2-3 UX designers, 2 UI designers, and a Design Lead. We emphasized collaboration to avoid silos, working closely together and learning from each other throughout the process.

Client Engagement
To achieve a cohesive visual proposal, we used collaborative tools that engaged the client in aligning brand values with the design. We worked hand-in-hand with the client and provided visual communication tools to support their internal presentations, ensuring they could effectively convey the project’s value within the company.

My Role
My role focused on creating the visual concepts and developing tools to facilitate client communications. The visual concept phase took seven weeks, followed by seven additional weeks for application development, culminating in a successful launch in 2015.

Post-Project Contribution
Several months after the project concluded, I worked for a week at the KPN office to design the TV guide interface. This opportunity arose due to my experience with the KPN project, allowing me to maintain the user experience effectively.
Learnings
· Team Participation: The participation of the entire team in the initial phases is crucial to avoid gaps. A strong team consists of professional members with excellent teamwork skills. A great leader leverages the team and enhances outcomes, and we had the chance to work with a remarkable leader.
· Client Co-Creation:
Effective co-creation with clients is essential to establish alignment and build trust in a coherent manner while maintaining professional respect.
· Avoiding Frustration:
Such relationships help prevent feelings of frustration on both sides. Designers can avoid feelings of distrust from the client, while clients can prevent a sense of disconnection from the product and the team.
